The men's lacrosse team fell to Lasell, 18-5 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex on Monday evening.
Johnson & Wales freshman TJ Consiglio (New Fairfield, Conn.) notched a pair of goals while sophomore Tyler Thompson (West Chester, Pa.) scored a goal, picked up nine ground balls and won seven faceoffs in the setback for the Wildcats.
Sophomore Andrew Suh (Colchester, Conn.) led the way for Lasell with four goals and an assist while junior Andrew LaPorte (Gorham, Maine) also had a hat-trick with three goals and two assists for the Lasers. Sophomore Casey Sullivan (Waterford, Conn.) added two goals and three assists in the victory.
Johnson & Wales took the 2-0 lead after the first quarter of action on goals by Consiglio and senior Keegan Donaher (Chelmsford, Mass.). Lasell responded in the second and scored four straight, including two by junior Joe Cunning (Newton, Mass.) to take the 4-2 lead with just over four minutes left in the first half. JWU cut the lead to 4-3 after a goal by Thompson with 1:22 remaining in the first half. The visiting Lasers struck late in the stanza, however and used a goal by LaPorte with thirty seconds left to take the 5-3 lead heading into halftime.
Lasell took control of the game in the third quarter with six straight goals, two of them by Suh, to take the 11-3 advantage heading into the final quarter. The Lasers then cruised to the 18-5 victory.
Junior David Walen (Longmeadow, Mass.) had nine saves in the victory for Lasell while junior Jack Pettine (Foxboro, Mass.) made 11 stops in the setback for JWU.
With the loss the Wildcats fall to 2-10 overall and 0-6 in the GNAC while Lasell improves to 6-4 on the year and 6-0 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, April 9th when they travel to Anna Maria for a GNAC contest at 6:00 p.m.
