Men’s Soccer Falls Cal-Lutheran, 5-0 To Kick Off 2009 Season

Bristol, R.I.. – The Johnson & Wales men's soccer team dropped an 8-0 decision against intra-state rival Roger Williams in a non-conference contest on the road on Wednesday afternoon.

Roger Williams got on the board first when freshman Billy Kissane (Glastonbury, Conn.) headed in a pass from senior captain Justin Plourde (Concord, N.H.) with only 40 seconds off the clock. Freshman Bradley Macdonald (Topsfield, Mass.) scored just 4:24 mark while junior Jared Falconer's (Ludlow, Mass.) goal in the 21st minute put the Hawks up 3-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks added five more goals, including Kissane's second goal of the game en route to the 8-0 victory.

Junior keeper T.J. Doherty (East Granby, Conn.) earned his first win as a Hawk, making a pair of saves in 75:29 of action before being relieved by freshman Ian McLaughlin (Chatham, N.J.), who made one save of his own. Johnson & Wales junior keeper Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) suffered the loss, making two saves and allowing three goals the first half. Freshman Anthony Sitek (West Windsor, N.J.) played the second half, saving one shot and giving up five goals.

With the win Roger Williams improves to 3-1 while Johnson & Wales falls to 0-3. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, September 12th when they host St. Joseph's College (Maine) at 1:00 p.m.
