Men’s Soccer Defeated by Norwich 2-1 in GNAC Semifinals

Providence, RI - Every time  the Johnson & Wales and Norwich men's soccer teams meet on the pitch, it's always a highly contested game. Wednesday's GNAC semifinal matchup was no different as the Cadets scored late in the second half to defeat the Wildcats, 2-1. 

Norwich improved to 11-3-5 and moves on to face Saint Joseph's in Saturday's final. JWU ends the year at 15-2-2. 

The Cadets got on the board quickly. Staige Davis' shot deflected off a JWU defender and into the goal at the 6:09 mark. 

JWU got the equalizer in the 54th minute. Yohann Assouramou (Cotonou, Benin) sent a through ball to Jason Cruz (Providence, RI) and he tapped it in for the goal. 

The Cadets took the lead with 22 minutes remaining. Matt Mazzola's header ricocheted off a Wildcat defender and into the net. 

JWU had a 22-11 advantage in shots but only got six on goal. Norwich's Brendan Germano made five saves to improve to 11-3-5. Nicholas Mancini (Toms River, NJ) turned away five shots but fell to 14-2-1. 

Head coach Dave Kulik has the majority of his team back for 2018, including Mancini who was among the national leaders in goals against average.
