Women’s Lacrosse Upends Regis, 13-10

The women's lacrosse squad posted a 13-10 victory against Regis in a non-conference contest at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex on Thursday afternoon.

Freshman Lydia Knapp (Glens Falls, N.Y.) had six goals and two assists while sophomore Marissa Hart (Cohoes, N.Y.) tallied a pair of goals in the win for the Wildcats.

Junior Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) notched five goals for Regis while sophomore Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) had a hat trick in the setback for the Pride.

Johnson & Wales jumped out to the early lead and held the 5-1 advantage after a goal by Hart with 16:07 left in the first half.  The Wildcats had control of the rest of the half and took the 8-4 lead heading into halftime.

Regis climbed back into the game early in the second half and cut the lead to 8-7 on a goal by Politis with 18:47 left in regulation.  The two teams then traded goals with the score 10-9 in favor of the Wildcats with just over six minutes remaining.  JWU then used back-to-back goals by Knapp and sophomore Jessica Schmell (Coopersburg, Pa.) to take the 12-9 lead.  The Wildcats then held on for the 13-10 victory.

Junior Genevieve Giampietro (Meriden, Conn.) made seven saves in the victory for Johnson & Wales while sophomore Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) tallied eight stops in the setback for Regis.

With the victory Johnson & Wales is now 2-1 while Regis falls to 0-2 on the season.  The Wildcats will return to action on Monday, March 10th when they host Husson in a non-conference contest at 4:00 p.m.
