Women’s Soccer Defeats Salem, 1-0 In Overtime

Sophomore Alexa Appleman (Marlboro, N.J.) scored in the 99th minute to give the women's soccer team a 1-0 overtime victory against Salem in the second round of the Fort Rapids Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams played back and forth throughout the first half with Johnson & Wales holding a 5-3 advantage in shots.  The Wildcats controlled the action in the second half, out shooting Salem by a 6-1 margin.  They weren't able to capitalize, however as regulation ended in a scoreless tie.

With time running out in the first overtime period, sophomore Kayla Sypek (Westhampton, N.Y.) fed a pass across the field to Appleman who headed in a shot over the head of the Salem keeper to give the Wildcats the 1-0 victory.

Freshman Alexa Rose (Lancaster, Pa.) made one save in the win for Johnson & Wales while Jessi Carter had four stops for Salem in the setback.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 1-3 on the year while Salem falls to 3-2 for the year. JWU will return to action on Wednesday, September 12th when they host Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest, starting at 3:30 p.m..
