KANSAS CITY, Mo. – This season, Johnson & Wales University junior Deja Hursey received a number of awards for her play on the soccer field. Recently, she was recognized for her work on both the pitch and in the classroom with a selection to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region team.
Hursey (Columbia, Md.) is the first Wildcat to earn the award and the only GNAC player on this year's team. A third-team selection, she has a 3.59 grade point average in human resource management.
On the field, Hursey was a scoring machine, ranking seventh in the NCAA with a GNAC-best 23 goals and was fourth with seven game-winning goals, including five during conference action. She collected USC Second-Team All-New England honors after rating 11th in the country with 53 points. A First-Team All-GNAC selection, Hursey recorded a pair of hat tricks as part of her seven multi-goal games.
Johnson & Wales should have another strong team in 2018 as five of the six all-conference selections are back. JWU lost to Lasell in the finals of the GNAC Tournament.
