Women’s Tennis Knocks Off Curry, 7-2 In Season Opener

The women's tennis team opened the 2012 campaign with a 7-2 victory against Curry in a non-conference contest on the road on Thursday afternoon.

Curry held the slight advantage after taking two of the three doubles matches.  Johnson & Wales responded, however and swept all six of the singles contests en route to the 7-2 victory.

Sophomore Stephanie Piperis (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) recorded a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles and also teamed with fellow sophomore Darcy Predieri (Sudbury, Ohio) for an 8-0 shutout win at the No. 2 doubles for the Wildcats.  Predieri also had a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 6 singles for JWU.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 1-0 while Curry falls to 1-1 for the year.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, September 8th when they host Becker for a non-conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
