Women’s Tennis Defeats Suffolk, 6-3 In GNAC Quarterfinals
The fourth seeded women's tennis team posed a 6-3 victory against fifth seeded Suffolk in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference playoffs at Cranston West High School on Wednesday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, including an 8-3 win at the No. 1 spot by sophomore Samantha Jo Borr (Westfield, N.J.) and graduate student Laura Schwenk (Ottumwa, Iowa).
Borr also recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 1 singles position for the Wildcats. JWU took four of the six singles spots, including a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles by junior Ansley Sego (Naperville, Ill.) to propel the squad to the 6-3 victory.
With the win Johnson & Wales is now 12-2 for the season while Suffolk falls to 7-8 on the year. The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, October 20th when they travel to top seeded Simmons for the semifinals of the GNAC Championship.
