Women’s Volleyball Takes Fourth At WCSU Invitational

The women's volleyball team notched a fourth-place finish at the Western Connecticut Invitational, held at Feldman Arena over the weekend.  On Saturday, the Wildcats dropped a 3-1 (16-25, 26-24, 21-25, 24-26) decision against intra-state rival Salve Regina.  The squad then wrapped up the tournament with a 3-2 (27-25, 18-25, 26-24, 23-25, 11-15) loss to eventual champion Brandeis.

Johnson & Wales junior Giselle Cram-Ortiz (Vega Alta, Puerto, Rico) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the weekend.

Sophomore Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) led the way for the Wildcats against Salve Regina, narrowly missing a triple-double with nine kills, nine digs and 12 set assists.  Cram-Ortiz added 25 digs in the setback for the Wildcats.

Drapeau did record the triple-double against Brandeis with 12 kills, 19 digs and 16 assists. Senior Karlie Haack (Selkirk, N.Y.) tallied nine kills while fellow senior Kasey Higgins (Wallingford, Conn.) had 18 set assists for JWU.

The Wildcats will return to action on Friday-Saturday, September 7-8 when the host the JWU Invitational at the Harborside Recreation Center.  Action gets underway on the 7th against Springfield at 4:00 p.m.
