Women’s Volleyball Competes In First Day Of New Paltz Invitational

The women's volleyball team competed in the opening day of the 2012 New Paltz Invitational, held on Friday.  In the first match of the day, Johnson & Wales fell to host New Paltz by a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) and wrapped up the day with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-9, 25-18) loss to Clarkson.

In the match against New Paltz, Johnson & Wales was led by sophomore Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) with eight kills and 10 digs while senior Kasey Higgins (Wallingford, Conn.) had 12 set assists and two digs in the loss for the Wildcats.  Michelle Jacobson paced New Paltz with 13 kills and eight digs while Marissa King had 32 set assists and five digs in the win for the host Hawks.

Against Clarkson, Johnson & Wales junior Ashley Rey (Miami, Fla.) had six kills while Drapeau added two kills and three blocks in the setback. Aishvina Arasu had a match-high 13 kills and three blocks while Lani Durio recorded 26 set assists in the victory.

With the two losses, Johnson & Wales is now 1-9 for the season.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, September 15th when they take on Ithaca at 10:00 a.m..  JWU will also face off against Old Westbury at 4:00 p.m in the final match of the New Paltz Invitational.
