The women's volleyball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match against the University of Saint Joseph (CT) and Norwich on Saturday. JWU posted a 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-22) win over host Saint Joseph before wrapping up the day with a 3-1 (25-16, 25-12. 20-25, 25-17) victory against Norwich.
Sophomore Carey Kirk (Purcellvillle, Va.) paced Johnson & Wales in the win over Saint Joseph, tallying five kills and two blocks while junior Natasha Finkbeiner (Belgrade, Mont.) had 13 set assists and five digs for the Wildcats. The host Blue Jays were led by Ciara Perez with six kills and 10 digs in the setback.
In the win against Norwich, the Wildcats were led by junior Courtney Wright (Windham, N.H.) who tallied a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs while senior Karlie Haack (Selkirk, N.Y.) added 13 kills in the victory. Freshman Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, Conn.) narrowly missed a triple double for JWU with a team-best 25 set assists, 11 digs and eight kills. Norwich was paced by Gabrielle Miller with 19 set assists, 10 digs and three kills in the setback.
With the two wins Johnson & Wales improves to 5-10 for the season and 2-0 in the GNAC. JWU will return to action on Friday-Saturday, September 28-29 when they host the Wildcat Fall Classic at the Harborside Recreation Center. Action gets underway on Friday the 27th against Western Connecticut at 5:00 p.m.
