Senior Bethany Barrar (Somerset, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team to a 3-1 victory against Daniel Webster in a non-conference contest at Harvey Woods Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Barrar put Johnson & Wales ahead in the 12th minute of play off a penalty corner. Sophomore Amanda Takach (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) followed with a penalty corner of her own in the 17th minute to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead heading into the half.
Barrar made it 3-0 in the 47th minute, again during a penalty corner. DWC notched its first goal of the season as Heather Strong (Palmer, Mass.) broke the shutout bid off a Taylor St. Jean (Manchester, N.H.) pass with 1:08 remaining for the 3-1 final. JWU finished with a 15-8 total shots advantage and doubled up the Eagles in penalty corner opportunities by a 12-6 margin.
Junior Jaclyn Lyons (Hillsborough, N.J.) made two saves for Johnson & Wales while Teresa Moscati (Buffalo, N.Y.) made seven first half saves for Daniel Webster while Danielle Melanson (Derry, N.H.) made three second half stops for the Eagles.
With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 2-7 while Daniel Webster falls to 0-5 on the year. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, September 26th when they travel to Lasell for a non-conference contest at 4:00 p.m.
