Senior Bethany Barrar (Somerset, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals to lead the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Bay Path at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Outdoor Athletic Complex on Monday evening.
Barrar got the Wildcats on the board early when she blasted in a shot from 20 yards out that found the back of the net in the 17th minute for the 1-0 advantage. Barrar's second goal of the game came at the 28:05 mark with an assist to freshman Pibby Cardozo (Wood River Junction, R.I.). JWU held a commanding 11-3 advantage in shots for the stanza while taking the 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftme.
JWU extended their lead to 3-0 at the 47:08 mark when junior Courtney McTague (Saugus, Mass.) put in a pass from sophomore Amanda Takach (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). The Wildcats then cruised to the 3-0 victory. JWU held a 20-3 advantage in shots for the contest.
Junior Jaclyn Lyons (Hillsborough, N.J.) had two stops in the shutout victory for JWU while sophomore Anna Meyer (Millbrook, N.Y.) tallied five saves in the setback for Bay Path.
With the victory Johnson & Wales improves to 3-9 for the season while Bay Path falls to 1-8 on the year. The Wildcats will return to action on Friday, October 11th when they travel to Rivier for a non-conference contest at 5:00 p.m.
