ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Miles Kelley hit a grand slam for the Johnson & Wales (RI) baseball team in a 13-10 loss to No. 15 Randolph-Macon University Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Estes Park.

Sophomore Owen Davis collected three hits and three RBI – highlighted by a three-run double in the sixth – while junior Jack Magane went 4-for-5 with an RBI and one run scored for the Wildcats, who hammered out 17 hits.

Sophomore Ryan St. Jean plated the first JWU run of the afternoon in the second before Kelley launched his first home run of the season to right field to put the Wildcats in front 5-2. The Yellow Jackets answered with six in their half of the frame to move ahead 8-5.

Magane's RBI single in the third cut the deficit to two (8-6), however the home team pushed across two in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead to 10-6. Davis' bases-clearing double in the sixth brought JWU to within one at 11-10, but the Yellow Jackets tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh to pull away for good.

Making his first collegiate start, freshman starter Elijah Barber was tagged for eight hits and eight runs (seven earned) in 1.2 innings of work. He walked one and struck out one.
